Former special-forces operative John Neil (Dennis Waterman, New Tricks) remains on call for the brass at Britain's security services. Whether taking on Irish terrorists or pitting his wits against drug lords, he harbors no illusions about the work he's doing--or the people he serves. Guest stars include Derek Jacobi (I, Claudius), John Hannah (The Mummy), Kate Buffery (Trial & Retribution), and Leo McKern (Rumpole of the Bailey). Four feature-length dramas. 6 1/2 hrs, 2 DVDs, SDH.
Episode 1: The Wolves Are Howling
Neil's handler sends him on an undercover mission to Belfast posing as an expat Irishman. His job is to get close to a local IRA godfather and find out when and how he plans to bring in a new shipment of arms and ammunition. Neil succeeds in winning the man's confidence--and the romantic attentions of his daughter. But suspicions about his true identity begin to mount, and Neil must complete his mission before his cover is blown.
Episode 2: Dark Secret
One of Neil's former SAS colleagues now operates on the wrong side of the law, and Neil's bosses want him to monitor the man's activities. Neil's investigation leads him to an ambitious member of Parliament who has a history of run-ins with the security services. As usual, though, Neil has been kept in the dark about some of the details of his assignment, and soon people around him start to die.
Episode 3: Kalon
When a military intelligence officer just back from the Persian Gulf gets gunned down on a British army base, Neil is tasked with finding his killer. The trail leads him into the heart of London's financial district, to a crooked merchant banker running a drug-smuggling and money-laundering ring. Why would the banker and his cronies assassinate a senior soldier? Neil's bosses push him to the limit to find out.
Episode 4: Sleeping Dogs
After visiting a retired KGB officer with secrets to sell, Neil sets off in pursuit of a cell of sleeper agents living apparently normal lives back in the U.K. However, he's not the only one interested in the ex-KGB man and his English comrades, two of whom quickly end up dead. Neil exerts all his charms to befriend a female member of the cell, and together they try to track down the others.
