Unscrupulous 18th century Royal Navy recruiters tricked men into "taking the King's Shilling" by giving them a tankard of ale with a shilling at the bottom. Accepting the shilling committed them to service, even if they hadn't wished to join. Reputedly glass-bottomed tankards were developed to save recruits from this trickery. Pewter pint tankard has the story etched on one side and a double-glazed bottom with a real King's Shilling sandwiched inside. 6" high, 1 lb. There is an engraving area on the reverse for your initials. Specify up to 3 letters. No rush delivery
